Not going to lie. When I went to sleep the night before, I wasn’t feeling great, my legs were bothering me from the flight and I was already dreading flying home. But it’s amazing what a good night’s sleep can do! Especially when you wake up to the sun rising over TOKYO DISNEYLAND!

We woke up really early and munched on some of the snacks we had brought with us on the airplane that we never needed. I drank some pretty gross instant coffee that I made in the room and Ryan had tea we bought at the convenience store at the hotel the previous night. We were at the monorail station by 6:30am.

We sat outside the park for about an hour waiting to get in. We didn’t realize it but we were going on the very first day of the Tokyo Disney Resort’s Easter Celebration, so it was actually more crowded than usual. Everyone was sitting so nicely in organized lines until they opened the gates. Then it was like a mad dash through the park!

We ran (yes, literally ran) to Monster’s Inc to get fast passes. Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea are still using the paper fastpass system, although I heard that summer 2019 they’re going to have an app system like we do at Walt Disney World. I didn’t mind, it kind of added to the novelty of being at the Tokyo parks. Once we had the fastpass for Monster’s, we got in line for Buzz Lightyear.

It was really fun and different from what we have in Magic Kingdom. We got ourselves some Mickey waffles from the Great American Waffle Company – one chocolate and one strawberries and custard. They were soooooo good.

We went back to Monster’s Inc to redeem our fastpasses. It was such a cute ride! It’s similar in concept to Men In Black at Universal Studios – you’re using a flashlight to find the monsters and Boo.

Next we grabbed Haunted Mansion fastpasses and then went to see the show One Man’s Dream II. For a lot of the shows at Tokyo Disney Resort they have a lottery system for all of the showings of the day except the first showing. So we got in line for standby seats for the first showing. It just seemed simpler and worked out well with our schedule for the day. It was a GREAT show! My favorite part was the opening scene. The background was all in black and white and so were Mickey and Minnie! Then they kiss and everything pops in to color. The costumes were amazing and really creative. It was a great show, even with it all being in Japanese.

Next it was time to use our Haunted Mansion fastpasses. It was weird to see the building in the middle of Fantasyland, it just didn’t seem to fit. The beginning of the ride and the outer queue area were a little different from Walt Disney World but otherwise the ride was the same. Then we decided to brave the shops so I could buy ears and a passholder badge. We did a little photoshoot by the castle in our matching shirts, of course.

Then we waited in a VERY long line at Huey, Dewey and Louie’s Good Time Cafe in Toon Town for our lunch. I ordered the Easter special sets (I guess that would be equivalent to getting a combo meal in the US) and tried Apple Tea Soda – again, so yummy!

We rode Roger Rabbit’s Cartoon Spin. Probably the weirdest character to listen to in Japanese is Baby Herman! That ride was our longest wait of the day, about 45 minutes. We went on the Snow White ride and then to Enchanted Tiki Room next. I really enjoyed the Hawaiian-theming featuring Stitch. I thought he was a pretty cool animatronic, too!

Next was the Western River Railway. It was a fun way to see a little more of the park! We walked form there to the canoes. I have never ridden in canoes at any of the Disney Parks so this was just so fun! We just went around a small loop but it was fun getting a rowing lesson (in Japanese) and actually being out in the water at a Disney Park.

Then we rode Pinnochio’s Daring Journey, which was really similar to the Show White ride, just a traditional dark ride. We snagged spots next to the Dumbo ride to watch the Tokyo Disneyland Electric Parade, Dream Lights. I ran to the pastry stand to buy chocolate Tipa Tortas (like a pie in stick form) to snack on before the parade. The parade floats were gorgeous. Ryan really liked the Cheshire Cat and I think the Tangled one was my favorite. Rapunzel’s hair lit up and the lanterns were glowing on the back of the float.

After it ended we just walked casually to It’s a Small World and then realized a TON of people were running to it. The wait apparently had dropped down to 5 minutes during the parade so we joined in and ran with them. I loved seeing all the Disney Characters in “Small World” form!

After that we walked right on to Pirates of the Caribbean. This was the same as the one in Magic Kingdom, but with the old Redhead scene instead of the new updated version we have in Orlando. We finished the night with some melon bread, milk chocolate popcorn (our only popcorn of the whole trip!) and a little more shopping.
